Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with shelter animals is genuinely rewarding, and it makes a real difference to dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.

Volunteers at the Macon County shelter walk dogs, spend time with cats, help with feeding, and generally make the animals' stay more comfortable. No experience necessary—just a love for animals.

Macon Animals doesn't run the shelter or manage its volunteer program. This site exists to help these animals get seen. But we hear from people who want to help, so if that's you, text us and we'll point you to the right person.

How You Can Help

What Volunteers Typically Do

Dog Walking

Walking the dogs around the shelter grounds. Exercise keeps them healthier and happier while they wait for adoption.

Cat Socialization

Spending time with the cats so they get comfortable around people. That attention makes them more adoptable.

General Care

Feeding, grooming, cleaning and the everyday tasks that keep the animals healthy and the shelter running.
